Sensory Needs and Hidden Disabilities

Feel more prepared. Celebrate in your own way.

Feeling welcome begins with being understood. If sound, lighting, crowds, unfamiliar spaces or a changing schedule affect your experience, we welcome a conversation about what would help you feel more prepared for a wedding at Shambala Estate on Tamborine Mountain. You do not need to explain a diagnosis to begin discussing practical needs.

At Shambala Estate, we invite couples and guests to talk with our team before their visit. Share the practical information you feel comfortable sharing, the arrangements that would help, and who you would like involved. Together, we can consider what is possible for your event and confirm the details in advance.

Know what to expect before you arrive

Ask for photographs of your chosen ceremony and reception spaces, an outline of the day, and clear arrival instructions. A private tour can help you become familiar with the surroundings and discuss the journey between spaces.

Agree the important information before the event: arrival and departure times, where to meet, ceremony and meal timings, and who to approach if something changes. Tell us if written information, a simpler schedule or an advance explanation would be useful.

Talk through sound, light and seating

Weddings may include music, amplified speeches, applause, conversation and dancing. Outdoor conditions and the number of people present also change the experience.

Before finalising the event plan, discuss whether lower music levels at particular times, reduced lighting effects or avoiding flashing effects could be arranged with the couple, team and suppliers. Ask about seating further from speakers, a less busy position, and a clear route to step out and return. These are requests to assess and confirm, rather than standard inclusions.

Plan for a break

If you may need time away from the celebration, ask in advance whether a suitable quiet or private space near your reception can be made available. Confirm its location, availability, access and how to reach it with a companion if needed.

Confirm the practical details

Discuss parking and drop-off, paths and surfaces, steps, distances between spaces, toilet access, weather arrangements and any support you need from a companion. Ask the team to check the specific route and facilities for your chosen event spaces.

Agree any staff assistance in advance. Tell us what would help you communicate on the day, who can speak on your behalf if you wish, and how changes should be explained. Confirm these arrangements with the couple and relevant suppliers before arrival.

One team, with your plans connected

Our five wedding coordinators care for your plans together, keeping agreed arrangements connected throughout planning. Any coordinator can continue the conversation with you. Let us know what information you would like included and who you would like involved.

We want the conversation to be welcoming, clear and useful. Start with the details that matter to you, and we will discuss what can be confirmed for your visit or celebration.
